Moore Cataloging Procedures

Duplicate Titles in Moore & Talbott

Duplicate Titles Located in both Moore and Talbott Libraries

(04/26/04 MQ, rev. 08/11/2011 MH)

If during the course of cataloging, you come across a title that has been cataloged for both Talbott and Moore, and the same OCLC record # has been imported by each library, the following de-duping procedure is necessary to eliminate one of the records.

Unless the cataloging by Moore appears to be fuller than the cataloging by Talbott, Moore staff should take all steps necessary to create a Moore MFHD with Moore item(s) on the Talbott bib. This may be accomplished by re-linking records. Once this is done, Moore staff may then delete (or suppress, if deletion is not possible) the old Moore bib.

If Moore has added a 505 note to their bib, or it seems to be otherwise more completely cataloged, then you should send the bib record #s to the cataloging librarian, so she can resolve the duplication in the catalog (either by consulting with Talbott and requesting that they re-link their MFHD to the Moore bib, or by requesting that Talbott alter its record with the additional editing).
