Moore Cataloging Procedures

Accompanying Discs and Cassettes, such as CD-ROM discs, Floppy Disks, Compact Discs (Audio CD’s), and Audio Cassettes (12/12/2001 MQ)

These guidelines pertain to discs and cassettes which accompany and are cataloged as part of a monograph or serial publication. There should be a note in the bibliographic record about these accompanying materials.

1. Create a note in the holdings record if the accompanying material is located at a different location:

Monograph example:

852 0 $b RIDM $h HF101 $i .F23 2000 $z Accompanying compact disc shelved at Circulation Desk.

Monograph example:

852 0 $b RIDM $h DA23 $i. L232 1999 $z Accompanying CD-ROM disc shelved at Circulation Desk.

Serial (in Reference) example:

852 0 $b RIDR $h CA211 $i .S21 $z CURRENTLY RECEIVED.

866 41 $a 1990- $z Accompanying CD-ROM discs shelved at Circulation Desk (1999- ).

Serial example:

852 5 $b RIDP $z CURRENTLY RECEIVED. Current paper issues kept until received on microfilm. Shelved by title. Paper format. Accompanying CD-ROM discs and floppy disks shelved at Circulation Desk under title.

2. Create an item record for the disc. This item record should be attached to the holdings record for the printed items. The item location and the item type in the item record for the accompanying piece should match that of the piece it accompanies as defined by the holdings record.  The subfields in the holdings record will alert the user as to where the accompanying material is located, and the item type governs circulation, and we want all pieces to have the same circulation period.
