If the words "poem" or "poems" is NOT part of the 245 (either $a or $b), there should be a 500 note:

500 _ _ $a Poems.

If no note exists and one is needed, please add this note.

For effective retrieval of particular forms of literature, it is important that the Literary Form (LitF) field of the 008 be coded correctly.   Please do the following for books that are poetry.

• If a book is a poem or a collection of poetry, code the Literary Form in the 008 as “p” for poetry, as shown below.

• If the word “poems” or “poetry” is not in the title or the notes, you should be able to determine that the work is poetry by examining the book.
