Searching the Library Catalog

Sample subject headings

Books and articles in Library One Search: Sample search

1. Search the title of the film in quotes (if more than one word).

2. If needed, limit to Format: Videorecording on left-hand side of screen.

3. Write down the call number and go to the Circulation Desk to checkout the DVD.

  • Use the below list of terms in the library catalog, but replace the "s" plural with an asterisk *.
  • Optional: If you want a fiction film, not a documentary, add the word "drama."

Books about  a group in film will be under the pattern [Group] in motion pictures.

Examples:

African Americans in motion pictures.

Jewish women in motion pictures.

Films about a group or topic may have a subject heading [Group]--Drama OR  [Topic]-- Drama.

Example:

African American teenagers--Drama.

Chinese American women--Drama.

Race relations--Drama.

Racism--United States--Drama.

Race relations--Drama.
