The Internet has been a great boon to providing alternative voices and stories not heard in our mainstream culture, but not all news sites are created equal. Some are aggregator sites collecting news from around the world; others summarize and provide commentary (opinion) on news found elsewhere; others are original journalism.
If you are using news for research, or simply if you want to know "Is what I am reading really true?", this matters. What is the purpose of the website (Is there an "About us" section of the website? Who is responsible for it?) Who are the authors? (Is there information about them and their expertise?) Where are they getting their information? (Are there links to citations)? Why should you trust what you are reading?
