Competition in sports business is complicated and the different aspects require different resources:

• If you're opening a training and fitness center OR providing a personal service you need ReferenceUSA (see below) to find your competition. How to use it is in the box below.

• If you're creating a new product with a national audience, then SMA will give you the brands you'll compete with.

• You can also look for brands of many products on Simmons OneView.

• If you're looking at college or university sports, decide if you're competing with other colleges OR with other sports in the same college. SMA and the NCAA have a lot of statistics.
