NoodleTools

Use NoodleTools, a library subscription for citing sources, to walk you through creating your Works Cited/References list (supports MLA, APA, & Chicago styles).

You provide the correct citation elements (author, title, source, etc.).

Link to the NoodleTools &Style Guides at the Rider University Libraries home page. NoodleTools will walk you through creating your Works Cited list. You provide the correct citation elements (author, title, source, etc.), NoodleTools takes care of the format and punctuation! First, you need to create a NoodleTools account if this is the first time you use it. Remember your login information for future access.

When you access NoodleTools from off-campus, you will be asked first for your RiderEasyPass username and password. 

  1. Create your own NoodleTools Personal ID & Password and click Sign in.
  2. Once signed into NoodleTools, click on +New Project.
  3. Enter a project title (e.g., “LEAD 550”), select a Citation style (MLA) and selectAdvanced for the Citation Level.
  4. This will take you to the Dashboard where you can add Project details, Sharing & Collaboration permissions and To-do items.  (No entries are required here.)
  5. Click on the Sources tab at the top of the page to start your works cited page. 
  6. Click on +Create a new citation.
  7. Answer the questions about your resource and complete the form.
  8. Click on Submit.
  9. To add more citations, repeat steps 6-8.
  10. To create/print your works cited page for your paper, click on Print/Export in the toolbar and select an option (e.g., Print/Export to Word). 

Step by Step instructions: American Psychology Citation (APA) Style Citation

To create a bibliography or reference list with prompts for the appropriate element in your citation, use NoodleTools (listed under “NoodleTools & StyleGuides” on the Libraries home page http://www.rider.edu/library

  1. Create your own NoodleTools Personal ID & Password, and click Sign in.
  2. Once signed into NoodleTools, click on New Project.

  3. Enter the project title (e.g., “LEAD 550”), Select APA (Citation Style) and Advanced (Citation Level), click Submit.

  4. You are on the Dashboard on the menu. Click Sources tab on the menu.

  5. Click Create new citation (the green button).
  6. Select the appropriate tab on the top menu (Database, Website, File, app, e-book, etc), then click on the type of sources (journal, magazine, newspaper, etc.)

  7. Fill out the form with citation elements (author, title of article, name of journal, etc.). Add additional author by clicking "Add another contributor."  NoodleTool’s does not correct what you entered. Watch out the Yellow Triangle Alerts.  Move your mouse over the yellow triangle and fix the entry according to APA format as suggested.


     
  8. When you have finished proofreading/correcting, then click Submit
  9. To add more citations, repeat steps 5-8
  10. To create/print APA “References” for your paper, click Print/Export drop down menu, and select an option (e.g., Print/Export to Word or Google Docs).  


     
  11. Exported References in MS Word (or Google Docs). Copy and paste the exported references to your paper or speech.
