The U.S. Department of Education has renewed a contract to continue ERIC’s operations under a more restricted scope. No existing content has been removed from ERIC, but there will be service changes, such as the closure of the ERIC Help Desk and a consolidation of social media communications. University Library will continue to monitor developments and will share any major updates that affect ERIC access or content.
Education Resources Information Center, or ERIC, is a bibliographic and full-text database of education research and information, including peer-reviewed journals and reports from education organizations. This database, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, is used by researchers in education and other social sciences fields.
According to the ERIC Help Desk, resources covered by this database will be reduced effective April 24, 2025. When asked about content becoming unavailable, the ERIC Help Desk’s response was as follows:
“The Department of Education is working with the Department of Government Efficiency to “reduce overall Federal spending” and “reallocate spending to promote efficiency” (EO 14222). As a result, the number of records added to the ERIC collection will be significantly reduced going forward. The number of actively cataloged sources will be reduced by approximately 45% starting April 24, 2025. Subject matter was not considered during the process to identify which sources would be made inactive. Please note that all records currently in ERIC will remain available. There has been a delay in notifying publishers impacted by this content reduction due to the government reduction in force. Once publishers have been notified, a final list of retained sources (journals and non-journals) will be posted.” |

Project MUSE is a provider of digital humanities and social science content for the scholarly community. MUSE is a trusted source of complete, full-text versions of scholarly journals from many of the world’s leading university presses and scholarly societies, with over 120 publishers currently participating. However, in the past two fiscal years, only 20-25 unique titles had been requested. University Library believes it may support the curriculum by canceling this database that has significant overlap (e.g. same titles) with other databases.

The following journals were cancelled due to high cost per use. Overall, University Library is projected to save over $16,000 through these cuts.
Title Name | Uses | CPU |
Early Child Development & Care | 72 | 127.1111 |
Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership | 4 | 191 |
Journal of Interpersonal Violence | 154 | 21.27922 |
Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology | 47 | 23.7234 |
Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment | 40 | 37.7 |
Nursing Science Quarterly | 39 | 28 |
Classical Scores, Historical Abstracts, and MRI Simmons have been cancelled. The Collection Development Committee is considering alternatives that would better meet the curricular needs of Rider University.

Swank Digital Campus provides digital access to course-assigned feature films and documentaries. Because this service is maintained to support classroom instruction, the films available through Swank will vary from semester to semester. Films may be found using the Rider University Catalog Search.

The Collection Development Committee is cancelling access to OmniFile and EconLit. OmniFile and EconLit are being cancelled due to cost of unique titles and overlap with other databases.

The Collection Development Committee has voted to cancel access to the following journals due to lack of use:
