Introducing Discover Library Resources!

If you have visited the library website in the last few days, you may have noticed some changes. We recently upgraded our main search box in order to offer a wider array of search options, integrating the library catalog and discovery tool into a single search. This will replace the previous Library OneSearch and separate catalog as the unified front end interface to our new integrated library system (ILS), which went live June 2, 2025.

What can this new research tool do? With Discover Library Resources, you can search the University Library’s print and electronic holdings across all formats through a single platform, WorldCat, a well-known research hub. Connecting the University Library at Rider University to WorldCat seamlessly integrates our holdings with those of libraries worldwide. When performing a search for an item that University Library does not own, you will now be able to expand your search to “Libraries worldwide” to see which other libraries have access, making an interlibrary loan request quicker and easier. Additionally, if searching for an obscure topic with few results, a simple click widens your results to show what books and articles on the subject other libraries own. When searching the web in general, the University Library collections pop up in Google Books, as well as Google Scholar for both the wider Rider community and the world to see.

With the tabbed options on the top of the main search box, it is easy to filter by type of resource whether you are looking for books, media, journals, etc., before you even hit “Search!” Once on the results page, selecting your desired format of print book, ebook, score, video, article, etc, is a breeze. In this new interface, you can quickly tell which databases are currently included in your search, as well as displaying suggestions for adding more. After you sign into your library account, you will be able to renew items, manage ILL requests, save searches, place a hold request, and more!

As always, if you need any help at all navigating the new system, please reach out to a librarian.

Happy searching!
