Search Skills

Observe the following rules and use Boolean operators in cap when searching:

 

1. Use quotes to search a phrase

Examples:

"social networking"

"web services"

"human resources management"

 

2.  Boolean operators OR, AND, NOT

Examples:

AND-Connects different concepts and narrow down a search

 

    "social networking" AND "business use"

    wiki AND  "internal communication"

     "artificial intelligence" AND jobs

 

OR-Connect similar concepts and broaden a search

     females OR ladies OR girls OR women

    "mash up" OR mashup OR mash-up

     "artificial intelligence" OR AI

 

 NOT-"NOT" or "AND NOT" will exclude a term from a search

    wiki NOT blog

    communication AND NOT wireless

 

3.  Truncation symbols to broaden your search, "*" and "?"

     comput*-computer, computers, computation, computational, computerizing, computerized

     wom?n-women or woman

     social network*-social network, social networks, social networking

 

4. Search not case sensitive

 Bill Gates=bill gates

United States=united states

 

5. Use Brackets for logical execution of a Search Statement

    "social networking" AND (advertising OR promotion OR customer relation)

    (mashup OR mash-up OR "mash up") AND "business use"

     ("artificial intelligence" OR AI) AND (job* OR employment)

"Tesla’s technology" AND impact AND "current issues"

 

("artificial intelligence" OR ai) AND (job* OR employment)

 

"small business" AND "information system" AND "daily operation"

 

"data analytics" AND (HR OR "human resources management")

 

("social networking" OR facebook OR twitter) AND ("business use" OR promot* OR ad OR advert*)
