Use the Advanced One Search. Enter your keywords in the search boxes as below.
Sample topic: The impact of social media to presidential election.
Notes:
1. At the Advanced One Search, enter the author's names and select the Author Field to search. Enter "sheena howard" OR "howard sheena". Alternately, you may enter sheena n2 howard (n+number searches for these words near each other in whichever order). The results include items by authors of the same name. Knowing the middle name and the subject areas of the Rider faculty will help you determine which are the correct items.
Quotation marks will work in Google search engine. With quotes, the search words will be next to each other as in the quotes.
OR you may use n+ number between the first and last name
2. Make sure you get the scholarly article. Read the Abstract (summary of the article) by clicking the title of the article. Read the whole article by clicking the PDF Full Text link (see image below).
3. If you have too many items in the results, you may narrow the search by adding additional keywords (e.g. Rider University) in the second search box.
4. If you do not get any relevant articles, broaden the search by not using quotations around the author's names.
5. Female authors names may be changed after getting married. Try maiden names may help find relevant articles.
6. Library One Search does not include all databases we have. Search Google Scholar if you cannot find anything in Library One Search.
Search Google Scholar
If you explore Google Scholar, REMEMBER: You should never pay for an article. Check the Journals button to see if the Libraries have access to a specific journal. If not, we can get it for you through Interlibrary Loan (Delivery from Other Libraries); this may take up to two weeks, so give yourself enough lead time.
