Find Images for Study

Here are some tips, websites, databases for finding images (art, photos, etc.).

Images in Books

Looking for images in books at Rider?

1. Rider has a rich collection of books on art-related subjects with great images. Search the online library catalog here or select Online Catalog from the library's webpage. Select the Subject tab to look for art and image topics by controlled vocabulary (Library of Congress Subject Headings). To look for keywords, it is easiest to use the Advanced Search tab.

2. You can also browse the shelves using the Library of Congress classification number. The art books are on the 3rd floor around the perimeter of the room. Here is a summary of the LC classification for art.

3. Moore Library has three scanners  for "fair use" of printed images.

4. In the Moore Library reference collection (on the main floor) there are major art encyclopedias with many art images. Use the index volumes to find references and page numbers for images.

The two largest works are:

Encyclopedia of world art (15 volumes)

The dictionary of art (34 volumes)
