What ChatGPT has to say for itself I told ChatGPT: "Write an opinion column about ChatGPT."Here's what it wrote: "As a long-time artificial intelligence enthusiast, I'vebeen watching the development of ChatGPT with greatinterest. Before long, AI like thiswill transform business communications AI chatbot experts are all talking about -- and talking to-- a newish research project from artificial intelligence research organization OpenAI.
This study evaluated the ability of ChatGPT, a recently developed artificial intelligence (AI) agent, to perform high-level cognitive tasks and produce text that is indistinguishable from human-generated text. This capacity raises concerns about the potential use of ChatGPT as a tool for academic misconduct in online exams. The study found that ChatGPT is capable of exhibiting critical thinking skills and generating highly realistic text with minimal input, making it a potential threat to the integrity of online exams, particularly in tertiary education settings where such exams are becoming more prevalent. Returning to invigilated and oral exams could form part of the solution, while using advanced proctoring techniques and AI-text output detectors may be effective in addressing this issue, they are not likely to be foolproof solutions. Further research is needed to fully understand the implications of large language models like ChatGPT and to devise strategies for combating the risk of cheating using these tools. It is crucial for educators and institutions to be aware of the possibility of ChatGPT being used for cheating and to investigate measures to address it in order to maintain the fairness and validity of online exams for all students.
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is ushering in an era of potential transformation of journalism and media content. This essay considers one notable generative AI platform called ChatGPT made available to the public in 2022 for free use. ChatGPT allows users to enter text prompts and rapidly generates text responses drawn from its knowledge acquired via machine learning in engagement with the internet. This essay is coauthored by a human journalism and media professor in collaboration with ChatGPT. The essay demonstrates the capacity and limitations of ChatGPT and offers reflections on the implications of generative AI for journalism and media education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Bloomberg) -- The New York City public school system, the largest in the US, has banned its students from accessing the ChatGPT artificial intelligence program for generating text on school networks and devices, citing concerns about the safety and accuracy of the content produced. OpenAI officials say they are working on ways to identify text generated by the bot. "We don't want ChatGPT to be used for misleading purposes in schools or anywhere else, so we're already developing mitigations to help anyone identify text generated by that system", said an OpenAI spokesperson.
"There's a lot of cheap knowledge out there. I think this could be a danger in education, and it's not good for kids," said one educator of OpenAI's viral chatbot.
