CMP-125 (Titus, Spring 2011)

Strategies for Searching

Choose a database using the chart in "Choose a Database" above.  For this assignment, one of the "Interdisciplinary" databases should suffice.

Strategy 1.

1. Type your keywords in the advanced search boxes.

2. Examine title results. Choose one that looks relevant/of interest.

3. Read the abstract and the controlled vocabulary (subject/thesaurus terms).

4. Combine the controlled vocabulary terms in a new search.

Strategy 2.

1. Type your keywords in the advanced search boxes.

2. See what controlled vocabulary and limits the database suggests (left sidebar or top of results).

3. Narrow or refine your search by selecting one or more limits or terms until you find results you like.

4. Try a new search:  Use controlled vocabulary terms in combination with your keywords in the advanced search box.
